Sunny, Jewell and Scout are enjoying the back paddock area. There is a lot to explore there and this photo shows how playful Sunny can be. She's one of our younger ponies here that was rescued, with her sister, Maya, and Father, Zee, from the kill pen. A larger, out of state, rescue organization saw them and found a local rescue organization to go and get them. They had been in several foster homes before finally coming to their forever home. In fact, the day Sunny and Maya arrived we received a phone call asking if we would also take their father, Zee. I felt that was very serendipitous and said absolutely! So they were reunited once and for all.
Maya and Zee still are quick to react but are also very kind. They love being free in their little herd here without a care in the world. Zee has many gelding buddies. Sunny has made the most progress and absolutely loves to be brushed and loved on. She's part of the coaching program here. The other two have also found their place and they now have kind, soft eyes with tons of curiosity. When horses are given the time and space to recover from trauma they slowly and steadily learn to trust again which also helps to build their overall confidence. We call that, "giving them heartspace".
Regular, healthy and consistent feeding also builds trust and teaches them they will never have to worry about another meal helping them to relax and "go back to grazing".
Thank you to all of our supporters out there that help to provide all of our horses with their next meal.
